Circa on Jellicoe Gallery

This Rosebank gallery is all about art and architecture. Technological and contemporary artworks are displayed, with visitors moving though an architectural artwork in and of itself. Circa is small but renowned and supported by Deutsche Bank.

Everard Read

This is South Africa’s oldest commercial art gallery. Contemporary exhibitions with scientific installations and human technological development are displayed. It is positioned alongside Circa on Jellicoe in Rosebank in the Keyes Art Mile and is known to support local artists, both well known and developing.

TURIYA MAGADLELA is one of Everard Read’s CONTEXT Art Miami artists for 2019. Turiya is a visual artist based in Johannesburg. She graduated from the University of Johannesburg in 1991 and then studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam from 2003-2004. She was awarded the FNB Art Prize in 2015, and has since participated in numerous group exhibitions, both locally and internationally. Her practice has been shaped by Johannesburg: the people, politics, violence and passions within it, and she translates her experiences into her fabric-based works. Turiya selects commonly-found fabric, including pantyhose and overalls from prisons, and stretches them over canvas, creating abstract compositions through the manipulation of the textiles.
