Cape Town is a holiday destination with an abundance of things to do, from going on adventures to exploring what the city is best known for.

Things to do in Cape Town

If you’re spending your holiday in the Mother City, here is a look at what awaits you.

Adrenaline-Inducing Adventures

Paraglide in Cape Town on a tandem for a view from above. You’ll be flying with a professional, and essentially sitting while the wind moves you across the city.

The flights are weather dependent, and usually take place from Lion’s Head or Signal Hill, which are also great spots to view the sunset afterwards. This is a great way to get acquainted with the city, and to soak up the ocean views.

Consider the Culture

Spend some time discovering Cape Town’s roots by visiting a museum. A trip to the Zeitz MOCCA is a must for lovers of contemporary art. There are many other museums welcoming the public, one of which is The Slave Lodge, housed in one of the oldest buildings in the city centre, sharing the story of slavery in the country.

If you prefer a first-hand account, take time to discover the Cape Dutch architecture and historical underpinnings of neighbourhoods like Woodstock and Bo-Kaap on foot.

Feast and be Festive

Cape Town is a hub for culinary arts. There are fine dining restaurants all over the city, headed up by some of the country’s best chef’s. Be on the lookout for specials, as you are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. One such super star chef is Luke Dale Roberts, who has the Pot Luck Club and Salsify with Ryan Cole, and trips to either are well worth the splurge.

In addition to good food, there are good times to be had. Cape Townians love the laid back feel, and when the festive times roll in, there will be no shortage of events and parties to enjoy.

Whether you drink or not, a drive to some of the countries finest wineries is a great way to spend your holiday in the Cape. From the beautiful mountain valleys to the exquisite gardens at the likes of Babylonstoren, there are many viewpoints that will showcase some of the country’s best vantages.

Many wine estates offer affordable wine tastings, paired with everything from cheesecake to chocolate. If you’re keen to do some exploring, a visit to Paarl or Franschhoek will charm you with their small-town finesse.

Become a Beach Bum

Cape Town’s waters are notoriously cold, but on a hot summer’s day they can be refreshing. Besides, what’s a trip to a costal city without a trip to the beach?

The city has many prized options, like the white sandy beach in Camps Bay and nearby secluded Small Beach, the four Clifton beaches and Llandudno, a favourite among surfers. For those who crave more adventure, try snorkelling in kelp forests. These are magical ecosystems and home to many sea creatures.

Conquer the City’s Icons

Hike along one of the many routes leading up Lion’s Head or Table Mountain. If walking isn’t your thing, there’s the Cable Way trip which offers stunning views as you ascend the mountain. Other icons of the city are the Cape Wheel at the Waterfront.

You’re likely to spot some big yellow frames at the V&A Waterfront (and at Lion’s Head), providing the perfect place to get your iconic holiday snaps.

Whether your holiday in Cape Town is a short or long stay, there is plenty to do to fulfill the wish-list’s of every kind of traveler.
