Cape Town city-break: Weekend getaway at 15 on Orange

If you’re looking for a city-break type of vacation, travel to the destination that has the perfect sea-to-city ratio and is crowned as South Africa’s beauty queen: Cape Town. Here’s our review of a weekend stay at 15 on Orange hotel.

Where to stay: 15 on Orange, Autograph Collection

Our journey began with a swift check-in – and a trip in the elevator which had a little golden couch inside. Guests also do this via the Marriott Bonovoy app, which also keeps track of the points earned during your stay.

We took the elevator up to the room, walking down the dark corridors lit only with blue lighting. We were excitedly becoming aquatinted with the off-beat style of the hotel and soon reached the door we were looking for.

The room was expansive, with an entire lounge, two TV’s, a desk, a drinks station, a comfy big bed and a large bathroom. The colour scheme was neutral with pops of blue, art and reading materials on the coffee table.

There is uber cool lighting in the bathroom, as the sink lights-up in golden yellow, beautifully beaming in the walls clad in mirrors. Inside was a shower and a stand-alone tub in the centre of it all, with a subtly glittering mosaic behind it.

Breakfast is included, and meals are served buffet-style downstairs. The decor is again exquisite, with emerald greens, gold and white setting a scene of causal indulgence.

15 on Orange, Autograph Collection is aptly described as “Exactly Like Nothing Else.”

The hotel provides guests with an urban oasis, housing 95 indoor plants, which provides the feel of a conservatory.

Order food at the hotel for a tasty take on bistronomy cuisine. This hotel is the perfect base for business travellers too, with unique venue spaces and seating for 120 people in the famous Judges Lounge.

Welcome to Cape Town

The hotel is complemented by the views of the city, with Table Mountain and Lion’s Head just a stone’s throw away, and other windows overlook the city centre.

As the hotel is situated in the heart of the city, with easy access to the three main streets of Cape Town: Bree, Long and Loop. You’re also a stroll away from the Company’s garden. Everything you’d want to discover in the city itself is right on the footsteps of 15 on Orange.

If you seek the beach, Camps Bay and Sea Point are no more than 20 minute drive away.

If you’d like to stay within the hotel itself, you’re sure to be entertained, whether you’d like to cool off in the pool, or hit the ground running in the on-site gym.

No matter which season you plan your visit for, the city has a lot on offer to its visitors; a trip to Cape Town is always a good idea.

Not far from you is the Labia Theatre, one of the city’s oldest cinemas. This is a European-style cinema, with tickets going for R50 each – lookout for the dinner-time specials, where you can get tickets for two plus a meal nearby for a bargain price.
