Parkhurst is a neighbourhood in Johannesburg which, for years, has been a vibrant epicentre of its own. Here’s the best way to explore the neighbouthood and all of the top eateries to visit.

Welcome to the neighbourhood

Head straight to Parkhurst’s 4th avenue. You can park your car in the street and then make your way through the area by walking on the sidewalks. You’ll find boutique stores, coffee shops and restaurants en route.

This is a neighbourhood with a distinctive lifestyle, where you’ll find people who frequent it for morning work sessions, lunch dates and vibey dinners.

It is a sought after neighbourhood to live in, both for its positionality (being between town and the likes of Rosebank), and for the big old houses that make up the residences. This suburb has its fair share of trees too, producing green leafy backdrops and blossoming flowers in the spring.

Once you’ve browsed the shops, perhaps popped in to the barbour and possibly even gotten inked, you may find yourself in need of a meal. Here are our favourites…

Peckish in ParkhurstHudsons, the Burger Joint

What you’re after: A feel-good meal in a casual setting

For a classic American style burger in a posh-pub setting, pop into Hudson’s. There are unique flavour combinations that make up the burger menu, and a selection sides to be shared among the table. This is also a great spot if you’d like to watch a sports game. For dessert, we suggest you opt for the deep fried Oreo served with vanilla ice-cream.

Craft

What you’re after: A lively atmosphere and a menu of epic proportions

If you’d like to go a little over-the-top during your time in Parkhurst, Craft is a restaurant that will match your mood. While on the surface it appears to be like that of a bistro, you’ll find adventurous menu items – it is a must to order one of their monster milkshakes, perfect for sharing. The menus arrive at the table on a clipboard, and the place is likely to fill up, so it would be wise to book in advance.

We don't just offer your standard "run of the mill" cocktails, we go that extra step to provide an experience like no other 😎 A great example is our Smoked Cinnamon Old Fashion – a blend of Monkey Shoulder whiskey, triple sec syrup, bitters and a touch of cinnamon. #craftphotos #parkhurst #eatout #cocktails #mixology
